Making a splash

Today I went kayaking with my dad. It took a while to set it all up, since it was our first time on the water this year.

When we got going it was really nice. We saw loads of birds. At one point a swan flew over us. There were geese and ducks there too.

Last year I went on holiday to Como in Italy and we kayaked on the lake. I guess we have done it loads now!

This part of the lake is strange to see because it’s in a Star Wars film! Anakin and Padme had their wedding here and you can see why. It’s a lovely spot.

If you have not tried paddling in a kayak then I really recommend it. It’s a good hobby!

Here’s what Dad says:

Our kayak is a Hydro-Force Cove Champ X2 which I think we got from Argos last year, about £100. I did plenty of kayaking when I was young and so have a good idea of what’s safe and what’s beyond my capability.

Obviously this won’t go over a wier but it’s sufficient to paddle up and down the Itchen.

If you don’t know what you’re doing, start with a couple of lessons from a qualified instructor and do ensure you wear floatation vests and helmets as appropriate.
